These days many people are worried about their current jobs due to a looming recession. Other people need a job and blame it on the recession. Here are the best ways to get a new job in a recession:
- Do your own self built home study course for very little money. Read top rated job books. Here are the best job search Books on Amazon
, sorted by best first. You can also buy the How to Get the Job You Want DVD
from Amazon.com. This should get you going as this is taking your job search as seriously as it should be.
- Don’t get a new job. Ensure you are very skilled at your current job, and stay there.
- Try a new field. Here is a great success story from the plumber we hired. He was a tech guy when the dot com bust happened 7-8 years ago. He was layed off and could not find a new job. People were in line at all of the companies he was looking at. So, he took a job digging ditches to make ends meet. Eventually he got good at it and moved up to plumbing. He learned to be a plumber and got his training. He was working for people and then eventually built his own business. Now, he runs a successful plumbing business and has employees. He loves dealing with customer, and would not go back to IT.
- Try. Try. Try. Go out and be in interviews. Get practice and get good at it. You will find a job eventually!
- Network! Join LinkedIn, Plaxo, and other Websites. Go have lunch with people. Connect with people and let them know you’re looking.
Best of luck and I know you’ll find something good. Be patient until the right job comes along!

These are the best 10 ways to get a job in order of effectiveness and priority:
- Start the Process
Decide what job you want. Set your sights on it. You may research the perfect job by reading books, reading the newspaper, doing a lot of thinking, etc.
- Research!
Go look into the job/s you are thinking about. See people doing them. Ask people questions. Read about these jobs and try to picture yourself doing them. Will you make enough money doing what you think may be the perfect job? On the other hand, are you only doing it for money (or a loved one’s need for money) when you should really be doing the right job for enjoyment / goals?
- Get Your Resume Ready
Write a good resume. Have your resume improved by an expert if need be. Your resume will need to focus on the right items for each job your are applying for.
- Network with Friends and Contacts
Let friends know you are looking for a job. Go to parties of friends. Let people know what job you are available for.
- Post Your Resume Online
Post your resume on job websites.
- Job Websites

- Set Your Expectations Correctly
Understand for every 10 resumes you send with good cover letters, you will probably hear 1-2 responses.
- Go on Interviews
Go on a number of interviews after you get calls.
- Take the Right Job
Do not take the first job that comes along. Go on at least 3 interviews and then start making possible choices.
- Start Your New Job
Start your new job, and decide in the first month how long you plan to stay. If in 6 months you are happy, stay. If you are not happy, move on.
